6 Steps to Help You Get a New Roof Estimate

Posted by First Quality Roofing & Insulation on Sep 25, 2017 11:42:00 PM

Contract.jpgA new roof is a significant investment that – when it’s properly installed using quality materials – should last for years. Getting an estimate for a new roof requires a little research, but it’s an important step to ensure that the work is done properly and for the price you expect.

The following are 6 guidelines to help you get a new roof estimate:

Choose a Reliable, Reputable Contractor

Don’t choose an individual or a company without an established presence in the community and a history of satisfied customers. Do a little research and check to see if the company is licensed. Also look to see if it’s a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and if so, check the company’s rating with this group. In addition, look for positive online reviews on sites such as Angie’s List, and ask the company for references from recent customers.

Consider Warranties

Does a roofing company stand behind its work? Do they offer warranties for materials and/or workmanship?

Look Beyond Price

Price is an important consideration, but it shouldn’t be the only one. If a contractor gives you a very low estimate, be suspicious. He may not be reputable and could cut corners with low-cost materials or fail to complete the job.

Get It in Writing

A company should give you a written estimate, and if you choose it to complete your work, you should be given a written contract. It should explain when the work will be started, when it should be completed, what materials will be used, and exactly what work will be done. A contract should also make it clear the amount you’ll pay and when it’s due.

Look for Financing

In some cases, your homeowner’s insurance may cover the cost of a new roof. This is often true if your roof needs replacing because of damage from a tree limb or hail. If your roof has worn out over time, however, without a specific event that causes the damage, your insurance probably won’t cover it. Look for a company that provides financing, since the cost of a new roof can be tough for most household budgets to easily absorb.

Evaluate Your Meeting

When you meet with a contractor for a new roof estimate, does he show up on time? Does he explain your options and offer informed suggestions and information to help you make your decisions? Is he polite and professional? If he possesses these qualities while providing an estimate, chances are good that the company will continue to be professional and courteous.
