In Las Vegas, the months of autumn and spring are some of the best in the year and our homes are often comfortable sans climate control. Heating and air conditioning can be big money drains, and so when the cold nights of winter roll in it's tempting to delay the inevitable and adjust the thermostat to a higher setting.

You might be one of these winter-deniers if you enjoy these popular hacks for staying warm and saving money:

Getting your bake on.  There's good reason why older cultures loved to feast in the winter. Baking, roasting, and broiling foods are a time-honored way for keeping a home warmer, particularly those spaces nearest the kitchen. Plus, in addition to enjoying the radiating heat of the oven, you also get to enjoy festive winter breads and casseroles.

Bedding with electric.  Those who enjoy warm beds or cozy couch hangouts, electric blankets are frequently a top-winter buy. Although an electric blanket that's used for eight hours per night can cost a mere $1.98 across a 30-month utility bill, is it really enjoyable to be in a blanket cocoon every time you're home? And keep in mind how cold it is once you come out of that blanket! We all dread that moment.

Going Beyond the Small Space Hacks This Winter with Home Insulation

While using the oven and investing in blankets are effective at keeping your body warm in a small area, if you really want to save money on your utility bills while also enjoying whole-house warmth then you should consider adding home insulation. Insulation is the most cost-effective way to prevent heat transfer. This means trapping heated air inside your home during the winter as well as keeping hot air out during the summer for all season comfort.

An attic is the primary source of heat loss in a building. Even homes with the most energy-efficient furnaces will experience extreme heat loss if they lack sufficient insulation. That's because heated air rises and without a barrier of insulation to keep it contained, heated air will leak through your roof and dissipate outdoors.

The good news is that the attic is one of the easiest places to add insulation and enjoy the benefits.
