In this post, we will be looking at what dry rot is, what type of damage it can do to your roof and how a [roof inspection in Las Vegas](http://www.firstqualityroof.com/) can best protect you from this common problem. **What is Dry Rot?** Dry rot is caused by certain kinds of fungus. This fungus starts to eat away at wood, causing the wood to weaken.  When wood weakens it generally gets a dry feel and dry look to it, this is where the term dry rot comes from.  **How Does Dry Rot Damage the Wood?** The fungus that causes dry rot has a special ability in that it can transport moisture to dry areas helping spread the fungus. If not stopped or treated the dry rot areas will eventually just disintegrate. Sometimes dry rot is confused with termite or carpenter ant damage due to the similar look of the damage made by these bugs.  You can tell the difference, carpenter ants leave clean cavities in the wood and termites generally produce wetter wood, plus you can usually see them. **Dry Rot and Roof Damage** When it comes to roof damage, dry rot can cause a whole lot of problems. It can cause load bearing beams, rafters and ceiling and floor joists to just rot away. This can start off as roof leaks and end up with parts of your roof collapsing if not addressed. If you notice leaks in your roof, it is important to have your roof inspected straight away. If dry rot is the problem, you will need to have the damaged wood pieces replaced and any other damage repaired. When it comes to stopping dry rot you will need to have a completed [roof inspection in Las Vegas](http://www.firstqualityroof.com/free-inspection/) to make sure there are no issues. If problems are found they need to be repaired or replaced immediately, it can be a good idea to have your roof and attic spaces weatherized as well. **Roof Inspection in Las Vegas** If you have leaks in your roof or you feel like something is just not right, it is a good idea to have a full roof inspection.
