Insulation is just for homes that las_vegas_attic_insulation_depth.jpgexperience cold winters, right? Not so fast! While insulation is usually associated with keeping a house warm, it does just as much to keep your house cool and if you live in Las Vegas, you know that keeping a home cool can be a real problem under the desert sun. Learn why insulation is important in your home, how you can check if your insulation is up to snuff, and how to fix your insulation issues with Las Vegas quality attic insulation.

How Insulation Works

If you’ve ever lived in Las Vegas during a cold snap, you know that it’s really hard to heat a house. Most homeowners will try to keep warm by turning on the oven but even with the door open, very little heat transfers to the rest of the house. That’s because air is a terrible conductor. To keep cold air in and hot air out of a home, you can use that terrible conduction by trapping air into the nooks and crannies of insulation. When hot air tries to penetrate a cool house, that insulation makes the heat fight through layers of air to get in. With enough insulation, that heat dissipates before it can ever reach you.

How To Check If You Attic is Well Insulated

Even if you’ve never noticed a problem in your home, insulation can be draining your bank account along with your air conditioning system. Attics are the primary place heat and cool air are escaping from the house. You want to make sure the attic is heavily insulated and any gaps where ductwork or pipes are going into the house are sealed. Often, contractors only provide the bare minimum insulation during installation and as homeowners move in and out, that insulation shifts or is damaged, leading to high energy bills and a poorly insulated home. It doesn't take an expert, just a visit to your attic and a thorough inspection

How to Insulate Your Poorly Insulated Home

If you’ve just found out that your home isn’t protected from the sun, you want to fix it and pinpointing what constitutes Las Vegas quality attic insulation isn’t tough. There are a few different options but blown-in insulation is often the most effective option. Unlike fiberglass batts which are long strips of insulation rolled out to fit between rafters, blown-in insulation covers every surface, providing a thick, impermeable barrier that keeps heat out and cool air in. Blown in insulation also covers pipes and ducts, sealing them from leaking air into or out of your house. If you want the maximum effect, blown-in insulation is a quick and easy solution.
